"You don't take a photograph, you make it."

My love of all things photography really started in 2011. I was faced with the simple truth that my cell phone took better pictures than my Canon Power Shot. I started putting cell phone pictures up on Capture Dakota and they started getting attention. I finally got to the point where I decided that I wanted something more. I wanted to “up the ante” per say. I did a lot of researching for something that would suit my needs. I bought my first good camera, a Canon Rebel t3i.

With much practice and the purchase of other “real” camera equipment, my love of photography was grown. I have met so many amazing photographers over the past couple of years and have been blessed with lots of opportunities to learn from them.

I don’t believe that I can pinpoint a favorite subject matter. I have shot landscape, wildlife, equine, different events (including weddings, brandings, harvesting, a Relay for Life event), and portraits of many different kinds. I also enjoy making slide shows. Pictures and music mixed together really evoke emotion on a whole new level. One thing I love about photography is that there is always something new to learn about it. There is that hunger for a “great shot” that motivates you to keep searching.

If there is something to photograph, just ask. I’ll most likely jump at the chance to try something new! I have been told that I take “outside of the box” pictures. The more interesting the angle, the more interest the viewer will have in the photograph.
When I am not taking pictures I am a 3rd grade teacher/3rd grade math teacher in McLaughlin, SD. I love the challenge of my job and working with so many different and interesting students. My students are accustomed to seeing my camera in the classroom. They love seeing pictures and slide shows of things they have done. They are excited to have a teacher that is also a photographer!
I also love to be outdoors. My husband and I have two dogs that are full of energy that keep us on the go (border collie/Australian shepherd/blue healer mix). I love to play softball, ride my cyclo-cross bike, and kayak in the summertime.
